Many people can find they have become dependent on alcohol or drugs to manage their lives. What started out as something fun or social has become an addiction which causes problems personally, in relationships and in the workplace. Sometimes our addictions aren’t to substances but to behaviours such as gambling, shopping or the use of the internet; these are no less difficult and damaging.
Psychotherapy can support you to develop the tools to stop your use of the addictive substance or behaviour (often alongside support from your GP or other health services). Many addictions will have underlying psychological causes, and psychotherapy can support you to address these issues so that you no longer need the addictive behaviour to help you through life.
