Mark Browne – Psychotherapeutic Counsellor

I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with an integrative approach to working with clients who come with a wide range of emotional problems and mental health issues.

As its name suggests, psychotherapeutic counselling is a type of counselling that draws from theories and approaches used in psychotherapy. The emphasis is on the therapeutic relationship between the counsellor and the client. This differentiates it from most other types of counselling.

I began as a founder member of the grassroots Co-counselling movement in Reading – mid 1980’s and then moved back up to Cumbria to train with The Northern Guild for Psychotherapy and Counselling with a foundation year in the Client-centred model followed by a two year major in Gestalt Therapy.

There followed three valuable years spent working as a Counsellor in G.P. surgeries in N. Lancashire applying all that learning to the wide range of presenting issues that came through the clinic.

I trained in working with Autistic Spectrum Conditions and worked within the Special Educational Needs unit at Settlebeck School in Sedbergh as well as providing individual counselling sessions at schools across Cumbria.

More recently, I have been a Counsellor with MIND, Kendal and am currently based at The Porchlight Practice in Kendal.

I am a registered member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their Codes of Professional Practice and Ethical Principles.
